Getting back on track!

Getting back on track after the holidays!

It is so easy to over eat during the holiday’s, despite wanting to eat right! We’ve all been there! You pick a salad and a bit of roast… but those roast vegies look mighty tasty… and that crackling!!!! Before you know it, you are floating around in the guilt with a bloated belly! DON’T WORRY! It happens to the best of us! And the worse thing you can do is beat yourself up about it! Here are a few tips on how you can get back on track from a binge!  

Manage your hunger!

During the first 24 hours your blood sugar will be wild! This will cause false hunger and a need to eat more sugar or carbs! Instead opt for some herbal tea, water or use your time to get some work or tasks done that you have been putting off.  

Your immediate action plan!

Get moving! Light exercise is the best thing you can do to help you kick back into gear! A 30-minute walk around the block can help speed up digestion and clear the mind! If you are up to it, engage in an activity that will make you sweat! This will leave you feeling so much better over the next few days!  

Drink plenty of water!

Drinking water will help to get rid of toxins in your body and assist your digestion in processing all the amazing food. Aim to drink up to two liters a day. A glass of water before bed and as soon as you wake up will get you started. Drinking water also means you are rehydrating after consuming fatty and salty foods that tend to dehydrate!  

Eat well!

Whatever happens do not starve yourself after a binge, this can open the door for you to binge again. The best thing you can do is to eat as clean as possible! Stick with colourful vegetables and fruit; and a good serve of protein. Avoid foods that are fried, heavy and sugary! Another great idea is to plan your meals, this way you know exactly what you will be eating and it is all conveniently prepared… saves you from scurrying through the fridge or headed through the drive thru! Remember Fail to plan, plan to fail!  

Get back to the norm!

We have all fallen off the bandwagon before whether we’ve just come back from holidays or a really busy period! The best way to jump back into things again is to go back to what you know best! Start up your routine, get back to the gym and get some to-do-lists going.   Don’t be hard on yourself! Remember to think positively about what you are nourishing your body with! Eat healthy, workout hard, be happy and feel confident!
